Keanu Reeves only spoke 380 words in ‘John Wick 4’

Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski omitted many dialogues of super assassin John Wick. The actor invested most of his time in dramatic action scenes.

According to Variety , compared to the original script, Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski omitted nearly half of the super assassin’s dialogue in John Wick 4 . Throughout the film series, John Wick is portrayed as a cold and quiet person, even though he is the main character.

According to statistics from The Wall Street Journal , Keanu Reeves only spoke 380 words in nearly 3 hours of the movie. Much of Reeves’ dialogue in John Wick 4 consists of a single word.

“In John Wick (2014) with a duration of 101 minutes, Keanu Reeves said a total of 484 words. Going into John Wick 4 , the actor only spoke 380 words in the movie’s 169 minutes. About 10% of the dialogue appears in the 2 minute 30 second trailer. That makes John Wick look more animated than previous parts. In fact, Wick is very quiet in the first 25 minutes of the movie,” The Wall Street Journal revealed.

The actor born in 1964 only had a few one-word answers in dialogue scenes such as “pistol” or “no mercy”. Michael Finch, screenwriter of John Wick 4, said: “It’s shocking when you work with someone who is so dedicated to his job that he doesn’t say anything.”

Keanu Reeves’ longest conversation is with Shimazu Koji (played by Hiroyuki Sanada): “We left the good life behind a long time ago, my friend.”

According to Keanu Reeves, John Wick: Chapter 4 is the most difficult action movie he has ever made. The actor spent nearly 3 months training specifically for the stunts in the movie.

One of the challenges is the dramatic scene where John Wick flees by car around the Arc de Triomphe in Paris (France). The scene requires actor Keanu Reeves to load a pistol while driving a car with complex techniques.
